Yes, we still care! To be honest, I've moved on to WebOS because my old T5 was too limited (my last addition was Wi-Fi SDIO card). But it will be really nice to give it a new life with DGOS.

Thanks for all your time, for DGOS and previously for PalmOS!

Derek said...

Yep. If I didn't I wouldn't have this blog in my RSS feed aggregator.

R said...

I do care. I still use a TX, and plan to continue using it as far as I can.

I'm eagerly waiting for DGOS. However, I guess that if very few of us remain, that would make the price rise.

While I have moved onto an Android-based smartphone from the Treo, principally due to its inability to effectively sync with Exchange, I still have a perfectly good TX and lots of data and apps that I preferred on the Garnet platform. I would certainly be interested in seeing your OS (especially if you can dual boot Android or DGOS).

Absolutely, I still use my Life(Flash)Drive for work. It is a straight work horse. I stiil prefer Graffiti for entry.

ePalm said...

Standalone devices are still very much needed. It is getting close to the point now that without cell service your device is pretty much locked. DGOS would bring new life to already great hardware. I for one have been waiting patiently.

Unknown said...

is to ask more than what you know better than anyone that there are many stakeholders around the world, I suggest you worry yourself because as you say many have migrated to other teams but it's not expected if not every day out new equipment I hope you achieve your project will be waiting

I still care, and as you can see, i'm not the only one.
I'd really love to know what's the progress on this project, is it 5%? 10%? 20% maybe? Thank you for your hard work.

Its nice to show people my L(F)D and see their faces. :D (Its nice watching them try to scroll through the apps iPhone-style.

I love it, its something different and seems to have its own little "personality" & uniqueness not found on the iPods & iPhones in every friend's pocket.

I'd love to help, so if I can do *something*, please drop me a line! :)

Sorry for my excessively long post.

My TX awaits. The N800 I bought right after just doesn't have the juice to handle a full day. The iPhone I recently bought is tedious with one button no pen and steps over and over like old generation units.
Keep on friend and we will embrace your results. :)

Unknown said...

Absolutely. I've seen nothing else to get excited about out there. Glossier interfaces, perhaps better browsers (as if anyone would be doing serious browing on a handheld), otherwise I feel just fine about my TX. Most people moved on because they want to feel like they are "up with the times" if you ask me. But it's all a matter of perception. "These times" aren't bringing much more to the table. Still Palming it up.

I already commented to say I was still really keen to see DGOS, but also wanted to add that I'd still like to see Android running on a Palm as well.

Still anxiously waiting to flash this on my LD.

Jesse Dymond said...

indeed. i've been waiting to get this onto my lifedrive.

./ said...

Dmitry: besides all the comments already posted, It's more than pure expectation to see how flashy the interface could or not be. See, I had a CVA ( stroke ) on May,2008, and this is my only "gadget" and my only posibility to be in touch with my former world, where I worked, find my soul mate ( my beloved wife), created and was happy as any human being can be. I'm writing this on the stowaway keyboard of my palm, now that I'm regaining control of my both hands after relearned to move them. Day after day I'm seeing more pages going down (palm related) or having changed from PALM to ipod-pad and disapeared its catalog and their support to any PALM product without looking back. I'm not changing platforms , because I'm almost broke, and I don't see a replacement as flexible as the TX. I've seen incredible efforts in the linux PALM turf, turned over because "of the sudden death of the PALM OS", C'mon...
I offer you my two hands, my knowledge of C, assembler (even some R.E. if you need it.) ...
Also you want to jump overboard...? Look at all these people at your Blog, you're a celebrity already, Don't you dare to become a LEGEND.! Think about what you Represent! We are here just because of you and your incredible effort... I think you have my e-mail... if not ask... Ill be more than happy helping you....
Sorry for such a long post ... M.

We DO care! Palm devices still alive have been waiting long time for a new breath of life.

Anonymous said...

Of course. Don't Give Up.
I'm still using my TX and if well I love Google's Android, I bought one tablet and the floor turned into ashes. Installed TealOs and it's very battery consuming and seems heavy.
In the other hand, Here in Argentina, Palm Devices haven't gone cheaper at all in 5 years. Yes, I'm counting on you.

Unknown said...

My old Treo 680 is anxiously waiting for your OS :)
Unfortunately the fabulous Palm Pre isn't available here in Brazil yet, but as soon as it is I'll buy it and hopefully try some Android in it.

I care too.

I also want to show to my friends that old gear can still do great/amazing things if it is powered by a more efficient OS.

Keep on with the great work!

Ian said...

Your so close. You've done a lot of work. Life can get in the way sometimes but whether its DGOS or an Android outcome, your efforts do matter and enough lurkers here 'care'.

Keep on dude.

Jacob101980 said...

So any update on the progress soon? i mean i'm buy palm devices regardless of this project but this is worthwhile for my devices. Please everyone wants this to go up

Unknown said...

Dimi, can you expand on the android success? I'd be very interested in this.

Thank you, and please endure with your project.

Erb said...

Sorry, but from a pragmatic standpoint, I think you would do better to get Android running nicely on Palm hardware. DGOS is a great idea, but you have limited time available to work on it. Then once it's done, you'll need people to develop apps for it. A Palm or Windows compatibility layer would help, but that too would require massive effort. And Palm hardware just gets older and older. Android would make available all open-source android apps, and it is a familiar platform for development.
Take a look at the history of the GEOS operating system. While OS's targeted to legacy hardware have a place, they tend to be a small niche.

ePalm said...

Last thing we need is another Android variant (fragmentation comes to mind). As for niche group? of course I don't see anyone running to the store to by a LifeDrive! when DGOS is finished. We "Handheld" faithful are looking forward to the release. We are not expecting DGOS to soak up any market share.

Coffee-Turtle said...

Dmitry. I'm a long time fan. I'm still using my LD!

I said it once, and many times before, and I'll say it again, YES I AM VERY INTERESTED IN DGOS.

I'm waiting to jump right in.

I'm hoping you will be able to do a tri-boot system - DGOS, PalmOS and Android also. But I am eagerly waiting just to have DGOS on my LD.

Please let us know how things are progressing. I miss your updates!

Thank you!

+1. And I second the posting of Vertis above.

For many thing (including making phone calls ;) ) I'm using my Palm Pre, but the TX is still working nicely. LD's power switch is broken, though.

I just bought a new T5 of ebay last month cause I love Palms. No smartphone. Don't need one. Palm has what I need. DGOS would be sweet, but if it never comes to fruition I'll still be on my T5 for many years!

Of course I care. Palm OS is a great platform but has some technological limitations because of it's legacy back there in the 90's. I own a Palm T|X and I'd like to use a modern OS which would be Palm OS compatible.
If you need any help that I could provide, I'd be glad to to help.

Dr.Mabuse said...

DGOS gonna be the future of Palm os

Anonymous said...

I do care a lot, better to have Cobalt OS like DGOS on our devices.

Jeff said...

Why? Because I enjoy pushing devices to their full potential :-) Thanks for continuing work on this, I appreciate it. I'm looking forward to better memory management possibly leading to better web browser (something that was always lacking on Palm OS 5.4).

Rafael Arevalo said...

..sometimes i get the feeling we're being trolled

Ian D. Scott said...

If you can use a modern OS on a good device, why use anything else? I got an up to date device called the Ipaq from HP to replace an old Palm. It broke. The device that still works after many years of use is the good one. Why replace it? Maybe because it is out of date. But it is not if there is an operating system being built for it! And if it is good, it could be ported to other hardware, and become a mobile OS similar to Linux, that works well and does not require hardware to be built for it. I think this is a good idea.

facelessloser said...

please carry on

Coffee-Turtle said...

Just checking in. I hope Dmitry this is still a pet project of yours.

I wish I had all of your old Palm knowledge. Although, your old apps gave my LifeDrive a new life back in the day, I would love to revamp my LifeDrive even further.

Thanks for any suggestions and glimmers of hope!

Sadly, I think this Blog has been abandoned completely. What a shame. Not a word from the author in well over a year.
It had promise and his earlier posts looked like he was damn close.

Hate to throw out a beautiful virtually new TX, but seems there is now future for them.
